HollyFrontier Corp. has announced that it will soon be producing Tier 3 fuels at its Woods Cross refinery for use along the Wasatch Front. Tier 3 fuels contain less sulfur and therefore produce far fewer emissions that lower-grade fuels.

“HollyFrontier Woods Cross cares about the environment and the air quality in the community, which is also home to many of our employees and their families,” said Scott White, vice president and refinery manager at the facility. “By moving to Tier 3 fuels, we are advancing our commitment to deliver high-quality fuel products in an environmentally responsible way. We support Gov. Gary R. Herbert, Utah Senate President Stuart Adams and Utah Speaker of the House Brad Wilson for their diligent efforts and accomplishments to improve air quality in Utah and along the Wasatch Front, in particular.”

“The largest contributor to our air quality problem is mobile sources — vehicles,” said Herbert. “When coupled with a Tier 3 car, the fuels that will be produced at HollyFrontier’s Woods Cross refinery will reduce these mobile emissions by up to 80 percent. That’s like taking four out of five cars off the road. We’re grateful to HollyFrontier for investing in Utah’s air quality.”
