Here is a little more information about Laura in her own words. I grew up in Taylorsville, Utah, and I love everything Utah has to offer. My family moved from New Hampshire to Utah when I was young. We moved in an old Desoto station wagon, and I remember some of the trips. Diabetes care is meaningful to me both professionally and personally. I had a cousin that had type 1 diabetes, diagnosed when she was 10 years old. I was born on her 15th birthday, which facilitated a strong bond between us. As a small child, I was always fascinated and intrigued watching, and of course, helping her with her diabetes care. I was obsessed with the chemistry set that was used to test her glucose levels. My mom had latent autoimmune diabetes of the adult (LADA). I also have type 2 diabetes which started as gestational diabetes. My favorite colors are sea-green, and magenta and my favorite meal is anything with Lobster. My favorite vacation spots are Puerto Penasco, Mexico, and San Diego, California. Walking the trails in Utah is a close second. My favorite actress is Meryl Streep. I am not a sports enthusiast, but if I were to pick a team, I would pick the Jazz. If asked, I bleed red for the Utes. When I worked at the U, you had to support the Utes! My favorite outdoor activities are anything with water, like swimming or boating; the best is being by or on the ocean. I enjoy riding my electric bike. I also like to play pickleball. I have a strong conviction that my patients and I are partners in their diabetes journey. I support, guide, and take them under my “wing"; I cheer them on throughout their diabetes care.
