Anaheim, California-based Nellson LLC, a nutrition bar and powder manufacturer and distributor, is closing its Salt Lake City manufacturing facility, idling more than 200 workers.
The news came by way of a notification to Utah state officials in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act. Nellson will be consolidating the volume from the Salt Lake City location to its Anaheim facility.
Founded in 1962, Nellson originally purchased the west side Salt Lake City facility in 2003 from Cornerstone Nutrition. The company said in a statement that it came to a decision to close the plant after a detailed analysis of both internal and external resources. The employees being impacted by the closure were notified in early March and are being offered a variety of options that include relocation options, outplace assistance, retention bonuses and severance packages.
Raymond Collins, Nellson vice president of human resources, said, “The decision to close our Salt Lake City facility was not taken lightly. Nellson LLC appreciates the outstanding work ethic of the employees, at this and all of our locations, who show dedication and commitment to our business on a daily basis. We are working diligently, with local community assistance agencies and local employers, to aid in placing the affected employees upon the cessation of operations. We will continue to invest in our employees to ensure the future growth of our company.”
In addition to the Anaheim plant, Nellson has a manufacturing facility in Quebec. It is owned by Kohlberg & Co., a middle-market private equity firm based in Mount Kisco, New York.
